November 2009 continued the wet theme started back in the summer by breaking the all time wettest month record.
Not just broke it - smashed it completely.
In November 2009 we had a total of 10.23" (259.8mm) of rain, the previous record being August's 5.01" (127.25mm) - we had more than double the previous record.
During the month there were only 3 days with no rain recorded at all and a total of 25 "wet" days (i.e. days with more than 0.02" of rain).
The month started with the first 7 days being wet with no rainfall on the 8th and 10th. Reasonable amounits of rain then fell from the 11th to 18th giving a total of 4.29" (109mm) over those 7 days. This was followed by a whopping 2.15" (54.6mm) on the 19th causing massive flooding in West Cork with Bandon and Cork City being particularly badly hit. This made the 19th November 20098 the wettest day on record, beating the previous date of 7th January 2005 when 2.03" (51.6mm) of rain fell.
