Record July Rainfall in 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Whilst July 2008 saw record rainfall for that month here at Tullig, July 2009 has knocked that into a cocked hat breaking the record again by a wide margin. This July saw a monthly total rainfall of 5.25" (133.35mm) - that's wet even for a winter month; but in summer it constitutes a wash out.

During July 2009 we had 23 wet days (that's days with 0.02" (1mm) or more of rain), this compares with only 14 wet days in 2008.

In July 2009 we had only 3 consecutive days without rain, from the 7th to the 9th whereas in July 2008 we had 11 days with no rain at all from the 11th to the 24th with most of the rain concentrated in the first week and last 5 days of the month.

The wettest day this July was the 11th with 1.41" (35.81mm), however this is still short of the all time wettest July day which was the 24th July 2005 when 1.61" (40.89mm) fell on that day.

Here's a break down of rainfall over the years I've been recording here at Tullig:

YearTotal RainfallWet DaysWettest Day
2009 5.25" 23 1.41"
2008 4.36" 14 1.21"
2007 2.92" 15 0.66"
2006 2.25" 11 0.97"
2005 2.99" 8 1.63"
