Record July Rainfall in 2009
Written by David Hollingworth

Whilst July 2008 saw record rainfall for that month here at Tullig, July 2009 has knocked that into a cocked hat breaking the record again by a wide margin. This July saw a monthly total rainfall of 5.25" (133.35mm) - that's wet even for a winter month; but in summer it constitutes a wash out.

During July 2009 we had 23 wet days (that's days with 0.02" (1mm) or more of rain), this compares with only 14 wet days in 2008.

In July 2009 we had only 3 consecutive days without rain, from the 7th to the 9th whereas in July 2008 we had 11 days with no rain at all from the 11th to the 24th with most of the rain concentrated in the first week and last 5 days of the month.

The wettest day this July was the 11th with 1.41" (35.81mm), however this is still short of the all time wettest July day which was the 24th July 2005 when 1.61" (40.89mm) fell on that day.

Here's a break down of rainfall over the years I've been recording here at Tullig:

YearTotal RainfallWet DaysWettest Day
2009 5.25" 23 1.41"
2008 4.36" 14 1.21"
2007 2.92" 15 0.66"
2006 2.25" 11 0.97"
2005 2.99" 8 1.63"

An Upgrade For Tullig Weather
Written by David Hollingworth
Wednesday, 05 August 2009 12:23

I'm in the process of updating and upgrading the Tullig Weather site to the latest version of Joomla. So there's a new look to the site and Joomla 1.5 will give me the ability to add new features and update the site more often. However there's a downside that some of the existing features won't work. For example I've had to remove the charts feature (these haven't worked for some time since the data feed broke when I upgraded my weather station to Vista). Also I've had to remove the weather queries which were written using the DBQ plugin for Joomla which doesn't work in Joomla 1.5.

On the plus side I've been working on my own data feed utility to keep the database updated. Once this is done I'll rewrite the data query part of the site and add the charts back in.

In the mean time I hope you like the new look site. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see from Tullig Weather.

July 2008 Wettest On Record
Written by David Hollingworth
Friday, 01 August 2008 07:39

July 2008 has been the wettest on record here at Tullig with 4.36" (11.07cm). This compares to previous years:

Year Inches cm
2007 2.92 7.42
2006 2.25 5.72
2005 2.99 7.59
2004 1.30 3.30

The first 11 days of the month were wet days; but this was followed by a dry spell from the 14th to the 24th when wet weather started again. The last 5 days of the month saw 2.7" (6.86cm) of rain which is more than the average for the previous 4 years.

Snow in Clonakilty
Snow in Clonakilty

The 1st of February saw something that's becoming increasingly rare in West Cork; snow. The first shower moved through around 10:30 and deposited large wet clumps of snow. This was followed during the afternoon by colder and better developed showers of 'real' snow.

This is only the 8th day I've recorded snowfall at Tullig. The other dates being:

25th December 2004
21st February 2005
23rd February 2005
28th February 2005
28th February 2006
16th March 2006
18th March 2007
