HEAT BASE: 18.0
COOL BASE: 18.0

March 2007 continued the February theme with predominately wet and windy weather for the first 11 days of the month. The 5th of the month again saw over an inch of rainfall with 1.06" (26.9mm). This date also recorded an equal record wind speed of 51mph, the second time this speed has been recorded. Despite the wet start to the month March was, overall, about average for rainfall.

After the 11th high pressure dominated for the rest of the month and the weather became much drier and calmer. This calmer spell was punctuated on the 18th and 19th by more gales and rain. The 18th also saw some snow showers whilst the 19th saw some heavy hail showers..

Temperatures, on average, were about normal for March:

 Year Average March Temperature
 2007 7.4°C
 2006 6.5°C
 2005 7.8°C
 2004 7.5°C

However what was noticable about this March was the lack of air frosts with the minimum temperature being 0.1°C. The temperature did make it above 14°C during the month; but it waited until the last day of the month to do it by reaching 14.3°C.

There were some heavy hail showers around on the 19th and after one of these passed through Cork City it gave a very nice display of mammatus:
