May

May often graces us with a nice warm spell in the third week; but this didn't materialize in 2005; in fact the latter half of the month was the wetter half. The maximum temperature for the month was a disappointing 18.2°C compared with 19.9°C in 2004; but at least there were no air frosts.

The total rainfall for the month was well down on the average again at only 2.72" (69.09mm) compared with 3.28" (83.31mm) for the 30 year mean. However the rainfall was well distributed with rain recorded on 18 days (16 average) and 14 days have more than 0.04" (1mm) (12 days on average). There were gales on 1 day and hail on one day whilst fog was recorded on 3 days.
