Page 2 of 13 JanuaryJanuary was much milder than average with a mean temperature of 7.94°C compared with 5.1°C and only 3 days with air frost compared with the 30 year average of 6.7 days. The mean maximum was 10.32°C and 17 days in excess of 10°C with a maximum of 14.5°C. Last years January maximum was only 13.4°C with a mean of 6.8°C. Rainfall was a little down on the 30 year average of 5.44" at 4.70" total for the month. Overall the total number of wet days was up at 23 (20 average) with 18 days over 0.04" (1mm) (16 average). However the number of very wet days in excess of 0.20" (5mm) was down from 9 average to only 5 in 2005. The 7th of the month was the wettest day of 2005 with 2.03" (51.56mm) of rain. January was the windiest month of the year with gale force 8 recorded on 4 days and the strongest wind of the year recorded on the 7th at 45mph (39.1Kts). Snow was recorded on one day in January. |
