HEAT BASE: 65.0
COOL BASE: 65.0

June 2005 was an average month in all respects with little deviation from the 30 year means in all areas. The only really remarkable area was rainfall where the figures were well below average until the 29th when 0.91" (23.11mm) of rain in just over an hour brought the total for the month back up to the average level.

The first week of the month was generally cool and damp with some rain every day except the fourth. The second week, however was completely dry up to the 14th. This period saw the first temperatures over 20°C with 20.4°C on the 9th, though that date also recorded the only fog of the month. This was a lovely sunny month with pressure peaking at 1034.25mb on the 8th before it started to decline.

The 14th started another damp spell and also recorded the lowest temperature of the month at 5.1°C. Pressure was low during this week with the lowest for the month recorded on the 15th when the pressure reached 998.45mb. The 16th also saw the strongest winds of the month at 27mph.However the 19th saw the sunshine return an again temperatures climbed to over 20°C; this time reaching 20.8°C.

However the nice weather was not to last and the period of the 20th through to the 26th saw a lot of cloud and occasional rain or drizzle. Temperatures and atmospheric pressure during this time were both quite stable with little variation in either. However the 27th again saw the sun shining and temperatures reached a record for the year so far at 21.6°C.

The month closed as it had begun, with rain. On the 28th we had the only thunder of the month, and that was some considerable distance away over the Celtic Sea. The 29th was largely cloudy all day though the temperature rose slowly and steadily through the morning and afternoon (reaching 20.1°C at 16:45) until shallow trough during the early evening brought 0.91" (23.11mm) of rain in an hour and a quarter. Until that date the rainfall for June had been well behind the average; but this deluge actually took the rainfall for the month to just over average.

  • In June we had:
  • Snow: none
  • Hail: none
  • Thunder: 1 day (28th)
  • Fog: 1 day (9th).
