HEAT BASE: 65.0 COOL BASE: 65.0
Another month of dry conditions with rainfall only 60.67% of the 30 year average. The first two weeks saw mainly cool conditions with low mean temperatures and four overnight air frosts, the last one of these being on the 11th. High pressure dominated the scene for most of this time stretching from the continent to Iceland and blocking the run of Atlantic depressions we would normally expect at this time of year. The seventh saw the coldest frost of the month at -3.1°C whilst the third was the windiest at 35mph (30.4Kts) The Atlantic anticyclone began to collapse around the 10th and had largely moved away by the 12th allowing some milder and damper weather. Temperatures during the next two weeks were warmer with averages around 10 or 11 degrees. However conditions were also mainly cloudy with some rain, the wettest being the 21st with 0.74" (18.7mm). There was also fog on the 18th, the 21st and the 25th. The 26th was the warmest day of the month at 14.4°C, still 0.1°C cooler than the 19th January. The last 5 days saw a return to somewhat cooler conditions closer to the March average. The last day of the month saw another 0.56" (14.22mm) of rain. As well as being dryer than average March was a good deal warmer than average with a mean daily maximum (10.7°C) 1.4°C warmer than average and the mean daily minimum (4.8°C) 1.6°C warmer than average. The overall mean temperature for the month was 7.8°C, again 1.6°C warmer than the average of 6.2°C We had: - Snow: none
- Hail: none
- Thunder: none
- Fog: 4 days (18th, 21st, 25th and 31st).
