Welcome to Tullig Weather.

This section of the Tullig.Net website is devoted to recording the weather conditions at Tullig as well as longer term climate data and weather related articles. The content of this part of the site includes the current conditions down in West Cork as well as monthly and annual summarys, climate reports and weather charts. There's also a meteorological units converter to help convert Centigrade to Fahrenheit, miles per hour to knots and many other conversions.
The site is supplied with data by a wireless Davis Vantage Pro automated weather station in my back garden. Data is received by the Davis console and transfered using a Weatherlink data logger to a PC running Ambient Virtual Weather Station (VWS) (Internet Edition).
The VWS software stores the data in a comma seperated value (CSV) file on the PC hard disk as well as:
  • Providing a sophisticated visual display.
  • Updating the monthly and annual climate reports.
  • Updating the current conditions, monthly and annual summaries online.
  • Updating the data on Wunderground.com.
The data is also transfered to a MySQL database running on a seperate Linux server for long term storage and analysis. Data is transfered to this database every five minutes using the VWSql Version 2.0 utility. This data is then replicated to the Tullig.Net online database every 10 minutes using some 'home grown' Perl utilities. This data is then used to drive the current selection of 24 hour charts that are available online. Future plans are for the user to be able to select the date ranges and parameters they want to chart.
