COOL BASE: 18.0

February 2007 has been a very mild and wet month with the mean temperature a whole degree centigrade above last years mean, which was itself mild. The following table compares temperatures in February this year with the previous three years:

  Mean Temperature
Minimum Temperature  Number Air Frosts
 2007 7.0 -1.6 3
 2006 6.0 -1.5 5
 2005 5.4 -4.0 9
 2004 6.3-4.5 8

The month started with the first week completely dry and cool as high pressure dominated for most of this period. However this was broken on the 7th with the first rains of the month.

The rest of the month was predominately wet with only 2 days not recording any rain. Low pressure persisted throughout this period with mean pressure only rising above 1013mb on one day. The wettest day of the month was the 19th which recorded 1.18" (30mm) of rain. This is my wettest February day on record and my 4th wettest day overall. With a total rainfall of 4.76" (120.9mm) this was by far my wettest February on record; the next closes being February 2004 with 3.91" (99.3mm).

This February was not particularly windy at Tullig with a gale force 8 only recorded on the last of the month. This was associated with a band of showers as opposed to cyclonic activity.
