January was a very wet month with considerable rainfall on at least 9 days resulting in local flooding on a scale I've not seen here before. Unfortunately, with the rain gauge out of action, most of this rainfall went unrecorded.

The month started generally mild and overcast; but this was soon replaced by cooler weather with the 4th recording the lowest January temperature on record for Tullig at -4.2°C. The 4th also saw the first of the heavy rain and the highest wind speed of the month at 47mph, the only date the winds reached gale force.

The 8th recorded the first thunderstorm and more heavy rain and this was followed by very wet days on the 9th and 12th before a second very active thunderstorm on the 17th heralded the start of a week of mild temperatures and very wet weather.

The final week of the month was generally dryer and cooler though rainfall was still recorded on 5 of these days. The 30th recorded the forth air frost of the month.
